Shrek – The Musical first premiered on Broadway way back in 2008. The musical production is based on the 2001 Academy Award-winning animation feature film Shrek. It closely follows the storyline of the movie, giving the fans a truly ogre-tastic experience. With the musical, it gives a unique and immersive experience as audiences witness their favorite fairytale creatures come to life.
Shrek – The Musical, from the producers of Hairspray, reimagines the award-winning Broadway and West End hit show for a new audience, featuring all of the classic characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film, including Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Gingy, Lord Farquaad, and the majestic fire-breathing dragon. Iconic songs and the story from David Lindsay-Abaire will be present along with Tony Award-winning Jeanine Tesori’s original musical.
In the classic story, an ogre named Shrek finds his swamp invaded by fairy tale figures exiled by Lord Farquaad, who is small in stature but gigantic in ego. To reclaim his solitude, Shrek sets off with the loud but loveable Donkey to persuade Farquaad to lift the banishment. Farquaad agrees, but only if Shrek saves Princess Fiona from a lava-filled moat guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. Shrek and Donkey are successful, and they set on their journey to bring Fiona back to marry Farquaad, who Fiona believes can lift a mystery curse on her. Troubles arise as Shrek and Fiona realize they have fallen in love with each other…
