“Shrek” is a computer-animated comedy movie by DreamWorks Animation The movie was released in 2001 and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animation Feature. Following the success of “Shrek,” three sequels and two spin-offs have been released. Today, it remains a classic movie with a significant impact on pop culture.
Shrek – The Musical premiered on Broadway in 2008. The musical production features music by Tony Award-winner Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Lindsay-Abaire and Jason Moore (directory) began working on the show in 2002 and were joined by Tesori in 2004. It closely follows the story of the first Shrek movie, with all the fan-favorite characters on board, including Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad, and the dragon.
Perry Sook, who played Shrek in the Broadway production in 2013, said, “There’s a fine line of balancing the iconic character from the Dreamworks film and putting your own twist on it. We follow pretty close to the movie, but there’s so much more because they’re coming to life before your eyes. There’s something that’s really magical about an ogre and a donkey and a dragon walking onstage in front of you.”
Although Shrek – The Musical closely trails the original storyline, it is undeniable that this unique experience of seeing the characters live in action will give the entire family a new feeling of excitement. The characters look exactly how they do in the movie, and the production makes everything feel so real.
Join the adventures of Shrek, a socially averted ogre, and Donkey, a very talkative creature, as they fight their way into the castle on a quest to save Princess Fiona! They have to be quick because Lord Farquaad is on his way too.
The musical production “Shrek – The Musical” will be playing the fairytale at the Winspear Opera House for a very limited time. Be one of the happy families celebrating the fun with Shrek and his friends on Friday, the 19th of July, 2024.
